Hey Melissa, thanks for the request; how do you see working? You'd have to specify the driver on each trip, and potentially change the driver just before the trip departs so that the correct profile is displayed on the trip and passengers don't get confused. We'd love to hear your thoughts!

Yeah, I think as long as you can list two (or more)  drivers on the same profile (as there are a few I know of that actually travel daily as a carpool or couple), then you can specify which route (for example my partner drives on the way to vancouver, I drive on the way back), but as long as whoever booking the trip can see who is in the car and who is driving that leg.  there would have to be a way to toggle the driver so that you can change it last minute if one person decides to drive instead for whatever reason.

do you think it would work?  can it be integrated?  You can essentially have both person's information on the same account, it's just that they travel together rather than in separate cars.....

Luke here, an engineer at Poparide. I like the idea and can already think of times where I would have used this. I like the idea of being able to show other potential paying passengers that there will be someone else on the trip, as well as being able to better represent who is driving on trips where you share driving duties.

In terms of implementation - my first thoughts would be something similar to the current "invite to book" functionality, only instead of inviting someone to book, you'd be inviting them to be a co-pilot or an non-paying passenger. They could then confirm or reject your invitation. If they're added to your trip, as the trip owner you could assign them as the driver up to the time of departure.

I'm curious - how would you expect to see reviews, ratings, and payouts working for this scenario? Would it be adequate in your mind to just attribute these to the trip owner? Ie, the person who originally created and organised the trip?

Yes, I think that reviews, ratings and payouts COULD just be attributed to the trip owner, but you could build in the functionality that it goes to the DRIVER of the trip - there would be more incentive to keep the integrity of updating the driver.  In the case of say my situation where it's a couple travelling together, our rep and bank account are shared anyway, so it's not big deal.  If it is friends that are sharing the trip driving, or even just acquaintances, then it might be more useful for them to have those things allocated to the actual driver, so that nobody has to handle $$ transfers etc.  So, long answer short, it would be better if he app could attach reviews, ratings and payout to the DRIVER of the trip.

I tend to agree with you - thanks for your input! We've added a record for this idea in our development tracker and will do our best to get to it.
