Request to book is when a driver wishes to manually approve or decline bookings on a trip. This gives the driver full control over who gets in their vehicle, and allows them to choose who will share the ride with them.
How does Request to book work?
When a passenger wants to join a trip, they Request to book by entering their card details into Poparide. This creates a payment authorization on their card for the full cost of the trip, to ensure they have available funds if the booking is approved.
The driver then receives a booking request and can approve or decline it.
- If the driver approves the booking request, the payment is collected in full from the passenger and they are confirmed on the trip.
- If the driver declines the booking request, the payment authorization is released from the passenger’s card More info
Expiry time
When a passenger makes a booking request, they can specify an expiry time between 1 and 24 hours, beyond which the booking request automatically expires. This is to ensure drivers respond promptly so passengers have enough time to arrange another ride.
Please note passengers are able to make another booking request after it has expired.
Cancellation policies for Request to book
A passenger can withdraw a booking request at no charge before it is approved. If the booking request expires, the passenger also isn’t charged. Cancellation fees apply once the booking request is approved by the driver. More info in our cancellation & refunds section

How can I tell which way I have it set in the app?
Hey John, we'll ask you every time you post a trip whether you'd prefer Request to book or Instant book, see screenshot below. Please note that you can change this setting by editing your trip.
Also, you can tell if a trip you've already posted is using Instant book because it will have a lightning icon⚡next to its title towards the top. I've posted another screenshot for you below.
Does this make sense to you?
