How drivers payouts work
Updated over 3 weeks ago

A payout is the money paid by a passenger on Poparide, which is to be paid out to the driver.

Driver payouts are sent using third-party providers Stripe (for Canadian bank accounts) and PayPal (international).

What are the payout fees?

We charge a 3% payout fee, which applies to both bank account and PayPal payouts.

The 3% payout fee + GST (tax of 5%), is automatically deducted from a driver’s payout.

For example, if a driver receives a booking for $20 from a passenger, we will deduct 63 cents (3.15% of $20) and the driver will receive a final payout of $19.37.

When is a payout sent?

After a trip is completed on Poparide, there is a clearing period of four days until the money from the bookings on that trip becomes payable. This gives enough time to resolve any potential refund requests between the driver and passenger.

The payout becomes payable after the four-day clearing period and is sent to the driver. At this point, the driver must have a valid payout method to receive the payout.

Once a payout has been sent, there is an additional processing time for the payout to reach the driver:

  • For PayPal: 0-2 days

  • For bank accounts: 1-8 days

How do I receive my first payout?

The first time you receive a booking on Poparide and successfully drive someone, we’ll send you an email with instructions on how to set up your payout method. Please note you can proactively set up your payout method before receiving your first booking in your Payout settings.

Once you have entered a valid payout method, we will send you eligible payouts that have cleared. Please refer to the When is a payout sent section above for more information on processing times for payouts.

How do I receive a payout?

As a driver, there are two payout methods you can use:

  • Bank accounts: receive payouts in Canada ($CAD) via Stripe within 5-12 days after your trip

  • PayPal: receive payouts anywhere in any currency within 4-6 days after your trip*

*An exchange rate fee may apply for payouts to PayPal accounts from $CAD to other currencies.

What information is needed for bank account payouts?

We use Stripe to send payouts to your bank account securely. You’ll need to provide your:

  • bank account number

  • sort code

  • institution number

  • address

To comply with government regulations and prevent fraud and money laundering, Stripe may require additional details from you to send payouts to your bank account, this may include verification of:

  • your name, email address, date of birth and physical address

  • the reasons why you are using Poparide

  • your Social Insurance Number (SIN)

  • a piece of ID

Note that these verification requirements are separate from our Driver's License verification process and must be provided directly to Stripe.

If Stripe requires additional information from you, we will display a notice with a link in the Payout settings screen in the Poparide app or website.

What do I do if there is a problem with my payout?

Sometimes a payout might not go through. But don’t worry, we're here to help you get your money! Here are a common problems and resolutions to payout issues:

My payout method is invalid

  • PayPal: login to your PayPal account and make sure your PayPal account is working, then re-authenticate your PayPal account through your Payout settings.

  • Bank account: it’s likely we need more information from you to proceed with a payout to your bank account. Check your Payout settings for instructions.

My payout hasn’t cleared yet

Payouts take 4 days to clear after a trip has completed. If your payout hasn’t cleared after 4 days, it’s likely because of an ongoing dispute with a passenger. You can contact us through our app or website for more information.

My payout was sent but I haven't received the money yet

After a payout has been sent, there is an additional processing time until it reaches your account. For PayPal, it's a maximum of 2 days. For bank accounts, it's between 1-8 days. If the payout was sent just before a statutory holiday or during the weekend, an extra delay might apply because banks are usually closed.

If you are having trouble receiving payouts, you can contact us and we'll look into it.
